Minnehaha County, South Dakota
In 2007, the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office started the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) program. There are currently fifteen Patrol deputies trained with enhanced first responder medical training serving the citizens of Minnehaha County. Those deputies are required to maintain their EMT certification, and they provide care commensurate with that level of skill whenever practical in light of the other duties that they are required to perform. This program is intended only to enhance the ability to provide first response in medical situations until the arrival of ambulance or other such personnel to undertake patient care.
